RIYADH — Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Health recorded on Wednesday 1,253 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, marking a sharp drop in the number of infections as compared to Tuesday’s figure of 1,479.

The ministry reported 13 more deaths over the past 24 hours due to complications caused by the virus.

This brings the total number of confirmed infections in the Kingdom to 478,135 and the virus-related fatalities to 7,716.

The ministry also recorded 1,043 recoveries over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of people free from the deadly virus to 459,091.

The Makkah region reported the highest number of new cases with 363, followed by the Eastern region with 263, the Riyadh region with 165, and the Asir region with 159 infections.

The remaining cases were detected in other regions of the Kingdom with just one of them reporting less than 10 infections.

According to the ministry, there were 11,328 active cases and 1,472 of them were in critical condition.
