Shercliff named new UK ambassador to Iran

LONDON —
Britain has named career diplomat Simon Shercliff as its new ambassador to Iran, replacing Rob Macaire, according to a press statement issued by the UK government on Monday.

Shercliff has been serving as the director for National Security at UK’s Foreign & Commonwealth Office since 2018.

He was the UK’s ambassador to Yemen between 2017 to 2018.

Shercliff, who also worked as the second secretary, political, for Tehran between 2000 to 2003, has served in many other countries, including Iraq.
