Saudi Arabia records highest single-daily coronavirus cases in over 3 weeks

RIYADH — COVID-19 cases in Saudi Arabia breached the 1,300-mark for the first time in over three weeks, with 1,309 new infections recorded over the past 24 hours.

The ministry reported 1,320 COVID-19 cases on May 26.

Meanwhile, 14 more people died over the past 24 hours due to complications caused by the virus.

This brings the total number of confirmed infections in the Kingdom to 470,723 and the virus-related fatalities to 7,635.

The ministry also reported 1,022 recoveries over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of people free from the deadly virus to 452,209.

The Makkah region reported the highest number of new cases with 388, followed by the Riyadh region with 265, the Eastern region with 235, and the Asir region with 115 infections.

The remaining cases were detected in other regions of the Kingdom with just two of them reporting less than 10 infections.

According to the ministry, there were 10,879 active cases and 1,533 of them were in critical condition.
