JEDDAH — US Special Envoy for Yemen Tim Lenderking is arriving in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday on a two-day official visit, the US Department of State said in a press statement.

The US envoy, who has been shuttling between Washington and Arab countries, returned home early this month after visiting Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Jordan is trying to secure a ceasefire in Yemen.

During his visit to the Kingdom, Lenderking will meet with senior officials from Saudi Arabia and Yemen, as well as UN Special Envoy Martin Griffiths, according to the statement.

“Special Envoy Lenderking will discuss the latest efforts to achieve a comprehensive, nationwide ceasefire, which is the only way to bring Yemenis the relief they so urgently need,” the statement read.

“The United States welcomes the recent Omani trip to Sanaa and the efforts undertaken by the Sultanate to support peace in Yemen. The United States also recognizes Saudi Arabia’s efforts to advance implementation of the Riyadh Agreement, which is essential to stability, security, and prosperity in the south of Yemen,” the statement added.

According to the US Statement Department’s statement, Lenderking will continue to press for the free flow of essential commodities and humanitarian aid into and throughout Yemen.

Before his visit to Saudi Arabia, Lenderking met with US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy R. Sherman on Monday and discussed the Yemeni crisis with her.

“I had a wide-ranging discussion this morning with our USEnvoyYemen Tim Lenderking. He briefed me on the latest developments and our efforts alongside the @UN to achieve a comprehensive, nationwide ceasefire for the sake of the Yemeni people and the stability of the region,” the US Deputy Secretary of State tweeted.
