Crown Prince discusses bilateral ties, Mideast developments in meeting with UK foreign secretary

Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman, deputy premier and minister of defense, met here on Monday with British Foreign Minister Secretary Dominic Raab.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed bilateral relations and aspects of joint cooperation in various fields, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

They also discussed the latest developments in the Middle East and the efforts being exerted in order to promote stability and security.

The meeting was attended by Saudi Arabia's Ambassador to the United Kingdom Prince Khalid Bin Bandar Bin Sultan, Foreign Minister Prince Faisal Bin Farhan, Minister of Commerce Majid Al-Qassabi, as well as the ambassador of the UK to Saudi Arabia, Neil Crompton, and a number of other top officials.

UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab later met with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal Bin Farhan. They reviewed the historical relations between Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom and the strategic partnership that exists between the two friendly countries, as well as regional and international developments of common interest.

Raab also met with Saudi National Security Adviser Dr. Musaed bin Mohammed Al-Aiban, who is also a minister of state and member of the Cabinet.

Raab and Al-Aiban reviewed bilateral relations, including the progress of the work of the joint committees and ways to enhance them in the fields of defense, security and political cooperation within the framework of the Saudi-British Strategic Partnership Council.

Taking to Twitter following the meeting, the British foreign secretary said: "Today I met with HRH Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to discuss our shared interests including trade, Iran and climate change. The UK warmly welcomes the Kingdom’s commitment to increasing the use of renewable energy by 50% by 2030."

In another tweet, Foreign Secretary Raab said: "I welcomed Saudi Arabia’s progress towards women’s empowerment in my meeting with Foreign Minister @faisalbinfarhan today. The Kingdom shares the UK’s vision of making sure girls globally are able to access 12 years of quality education, including through @GPforEducation."
