Coalition forces intercept, destroy Houthi-fired drone toward Khamis Mushayt

JEDDAH — The Arab Coalition Forces in the early hours of Sunday morning intercepted and destroyed an explosive-laden drone fired by the Iranian-backed Al-Houthi militias towards Khamis Mushayt, the southern city of Saudi Arabia, reported Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

In a statement, coalition spokesman, Brig. Gen. Turki Al Maliki, said, "The coalition air defenses intercepted and destroyed a drone (booby-trapped) launched by the terrorist Houthi militia towards Khamis Mushayt.”

Later, on Sunday, the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Dr. Yousef Bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen strongly condemned the terrorist Houthi militia’s attempt to target civilians and civilian objects in Khamis Mushayt City with a bomb-laden UAV.

The secretary general praised the high level of alert and capabilities of the Saudi air defense forces that intercepted and destroyed the Houthi UAV before reaching its target.

Dr. Al-Othaimeen renewed OIC’s support for all procedures taken by the coalition forces to deal with the practices of the Houthi militia, in a bid to protect civilians and civil objects, under the international humanitarian law and its norms, pointing out that the hostile escalation actions and blatant challenge from Houthis are considered war crimes.

He also reiterated the organization’s stance and solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in facing these terrorist crimes perpetrated by the Houthi militia, supporting all procedures taken by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to protect its security and stability and the safety of citizens and residents.

In Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has strongly condemned and denounced the attempts of the Iran-backed terrorist Houthi militia to systematically and deliberately target civilians and civilian objects in Khamis Mushayt City using a bomb-laden UAV that was intercepted by the Coalition forces.

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation confirmed in a statement that the continuation of these terrorist attacks by the Houthis constitutes their blatant challenge to the international community and disregard for all international laws and norms.

The Ministry urged the international community to take an immediate and decisive stance to stop these repeated acts that target vital and civilian installations as well as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's security and the stability of global energy supplies and economy.

It reiterated that the continuation of these attacks recently is a dangerous escalation and new evidence of this militia's endeavor to undermine security and stability in the region.

The Ministry renewed the UAE’s full solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia regarding these terrorist attacks, standing in one line with Saudi Arabia against every threat to its security and stability, and supporting it in all measures it takes to preserve its security and the safety of its citizens and residents.

The statement concluded that the security of the United Arab Emirates and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is indivisible, and that any threat or danger facing Saudi Arabia is considered a threat to the UAE's security and stability.

In Cairo, the Arab Parliament President Adel Bin Abdulrahman Al-Asoumi strongly condemned the Houthi terrorist militia's repeated attempts to target Khamis Mushayt with bomb-laden UAVs.

In a statement announced Sunday, Al-Asoumi affirmed the parliament's full support and standing along with Saudi Arabia in the measures it takes to protect its stability and national security and preserve the safety of its citizens, warning of the risks of continuation of such terrorist attacks that pose flagrant challenge to the international law.

In Manama, the Kingdom of Bahrain has strongly condemned the Iran-backed terrorist Houthi militia’s launching of a bomb-laden UAV towards Khamis Mushayt City, denouncing the militia’s continuous terrorist attacks targeting civilians in Saudi Arabia, as these attacks constitute blatant violation of all international laws and humanitarian norms.

In a statement, Bahrain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs commended the vigilance and capabilities of the Forces of the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen that intercepted and destroyed the Houthi UAV, stressing Bahrain's support for Saudi Arabia in all measures it takes to defend its safety and security. — SPA
