Pentagon chief commends Saudi efforts to end Yemeni crisis in phone call with Crown Prince

Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman held talks early Thursday with US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin over the telephone, according to a statement from the US Department of Defense.

During the talks, the Pentagon chief emphasized the US commitment to helping Saudi Arabia defend its territory and people.

“They discussed regional security, particularly efforts to end the war in Yemen. Secretary Austin thanked the Crown Prince for working closely and constructively with US Special Envoy Tim Lenderking to end the war in Yemen,” the statement read.

“Secretary Austin noted Saudi Arabia's recent successes in defeating Houthi attacks on the Kingdom and discussed ongoing bilateral efforts to improve Saudi Arabia's defenses. Saudi Arabia is an important pillar in the regional security architecture and the US remains committed to its self-defense,” the statement added.
