Active COVID-19 cases top 9,000 as Saudi Arabia reports 1,157 new infections

JEDDAH — Saudi Arabia recorded 1,157 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health.

The single-day cases in the Kingdom have remained below 1,200 for the last three days in a row after surging past 1,300 on Thursday.

The ministry also announced that 15 more people died over the past 24 hours due to complications caused by the virus.

This brings the total number of confirmed infections in the Kingdom to 442,071 and the virus-related fatalities to 7,264.

The ministry also reported 987 recoveries over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of people free from the deadly virus to 425,677.

The Makkah region reported the highest number of new cases with 357 followed by the Riyadh region with 320, the Eastern region with 137, and the Madinah region with 100 infections.

The remaining cases were detected in other regions of the Kingdom with just two of them reporting less than 10 infections.

According to the ministry, there were 9,130 active cases and 1,334 of them were in critical condition.
