4 regions of Saudi Arabia record over 100 virus cases as new infections surge past 1,300

JEDDAH — New COVID-19 cases in Saudi Arabia surged past the 1,300-mark on Thursday for the first time in more than nine months, with 1,330 new infections recorded over the past 24 hours.

According to the Ministry of Health, 13 more people died over the past 24 hours due to complications caused by the virus.

This brings the total number of confirmed infections in the Kingdom to 437,569 and the virus-related fatalities to 7,214.

The ministry also reported 1,055 recoveries over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of people free from the deadly virus to 421,726.

The Makkah region reported the highest number of new cases with 381 followed by the Riyadh region with 350, the Eastern region with 161, and the Madinah region with 115 infections.

The remaining cases were detected in other regions of the Kingdom with just one of the reporting less than 10 infections.

According to the ministry, there were 8,629 active cases and 1,365 of them were in critical condition.
