MANAMA — Bahrain has decided to give a third booster shot in the next phase of the coronavirus vaccination campaign, the Bahrain News Agency reported on Friday.

The country’s top medical team to deal with the pandemic has set the phases for administering the third dose during a meeting on Friday.

The booster jab will be provided according to the different categories in order to ensure the maximum benefit for each group.

Citizens and residents of age 60 years and above, and those suffering from obesity and immunodeficiency diseases as well as frontline health workers will be offered the third dose 6 months after the second dose while the rest of the citizens and residents can take the booster jab after 12 months.

The booster shot can be from a different type of vaccine than the first two shots as per the recommendations of the medical team.

Registration for the third booster shot will be available through the BeAware app, as per medical protocols issued in this context, the report added.

Meanwhile, the medical team said that 44 percent of the eligible population has so far been inoculated against coronavirus.
