RIYADH — Saudi Arabia’s Literature, Publishing and Translation Commission intends to launch the “Arab Translation Monitor” initiative early next year.

The initiative aims at coordinating Arab efforts in the field of translation and supporting its progress, by establishing an observatory that documents the translation movement in the Arab world. It will serve as a reliable reference and gateway for knowledge and cultural exchange, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Thursday.

The “Arab Translation Monitor” initiative seeks to bridge the gap of knowledge between the Arab nation and the world as a whole, through enriching the culture and achieving the requirements for knowledge growth that the translation process involves, in addition to developing a sustainable competitive system for the translation sector.

This, in turn, will achieve economic growth for the Kingdom, bolster its status as a pioneering digital reference for certified translation. In addition to creating an inclusive environment for specialists and researchers from individuals and institutions in the Arab world, and deepening international partnerships in the fields of translation.

Implementing the “Arab Translation Monitor” initiative comes as part of the efforts of the Literature, Publishing and Translation Commission to build a creative literary environment in which the efforts of authors, translators and publishers are integrated, and in which the translation movement to and from the Arabic language is active.

It is noteworthy that the Literature, Publishing and Translation Commission, which comes under the Ministry of Culture was established in February 2020 and is based in Riyadh. The commission's main purpose is to systemize the publishing industry, develop a creative environment and create investment opportunities.
