COVID cases drop below 1,000 as recoveries in Saudi Arabia surge

RIYADH — Single-day coronavirus cases dropped below 1,000-mark on Sunday with 953 new infections recorded over the past 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Health.

The ministry announced 13 more deaths over the past 24 hours due to complications caused by the deadly virus.

This brings the total number of confirmed infections in the Kingdom to 412,216 and the virus-related fatalities to 6,900.

The ministry also reported 1,028 recoveries over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of people free from the deadly virus to 395,557.

The Riyadh region recorded the highest number of new cases with 382 followed by the Makkah region with 212 and the Eastern region with 152 infections.

The remaining cases were detected in other regions of the Kingdom with three regions showing single digit cases.

According to the ministry, there were 9, 759 active cases and 1,246 of them were in critical condition.
