Riyadh region accounts for nearly half of COVID-19 cases as Saudi Arabia records 929 new infections

RIYADH — Coronavirus cases in Saudi Arabia remained above the 900-mark for the second consecutive day, with 929 new infections recorded on Wednesday.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Health, eight more people died from complications caused by COVID-19 over the past 24 hours.

This brings the total number of confirmed infections in the Kingdom to 401,157 and the virus-related fatalities to 6,781.

The ministry also reported 806 recoveries over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of people free from the deadly virus to 385,441.

The Riyadh region recorded the highest number of new cases with 443 followed by the Makkah region with 172 and the Eastern region with 130 infections.

The remaining cases were detected in other regions of the Kingdom with just one of them reporting less than 10 infections.

According to the ministry, there were 8,935 active cases and 986 of them were in critical condition.
