RIYADH — Authorities in Saudi Arabia have foiled an attempt to smuggle more than 9 million narcotic amphetamine tablets into the Kingdom.

In a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency on Friday, spokesman of the General Directorate of Narcotics Control (GDNC) Captain Mohammad Al-Nujaidi said that the security follow-up of activities of criminal networks, which plan to smuggle narcotics into Saudi Arabia, has resulted in thwarting an attempt to smuggle 9,504,000 Amphetamine tablets hidden in a shipment of wood planks.

Captain Al-Nujaidi said that the six members involved in the case were arrested, including four citizens and two Syrian nationals.

He added that the detainees faced initial legal procedures before being referred to the Public Prosecution.
