Saudi Gazette report

JEDDAH — Saudi Customs at the Jeddah Islamic Port foiled an attempt to smuggle 1,323,000 Captagon pills, which were found hidden inside a consignment arriving from Turkey’s Port of Iskenderun, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Monday.

The drugs, which were discovered with the use of X-ray, were meticulously placed into linings of fur clothing consignment and stitched, undersecretary of the General Authority for Security Affairs Muhammad Al-Naeem said.

AL-Naeem added that after the attempt was thwarted, two people — who were waiting to receive the drugs — were apprehended in coordination with the General Directorate for Narcotics Control.

He confirmed that the authority is continuing to tighten customs control over all imports, exports, and travelers as well as combating smuggling in all its forms, pointing out that Saudi Customs seized over 12.5 million pills shipped from the same port since April 2020.
