RIYADH — Dr. Khaled Alabulqader, CEO of the National Center for Vegetation Cover and Combating Desertification, said the "Saudi Arabia Green Initiative" and the "Green Middle East Initiative" announced by Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman consolidate the Kingdom's pioneering role regionally and globally in the field of environmental protection.

He pointed out that the two initiatives draw the future features of the planet and pave the way for the Kingdom to lead the next green era.

In a statement, Dr. Alabulqader affirmed, “What was announced by the Crown Prince will chart the direction of the Kingdom and the region in protecting nature, achieve global targets in the field of environmental protection, raise the percentage of vegetation cover and reduce carbon emissions, in addition to combating pollution, land degradation and preserving marine life.”

He asserted that the Crown Prince's announcement was clear and transparent with regard to finding drastic solutions to the challenges facing the environment.

Dr. Khaled added, "The Crown Prince noted that the Kingdom, as a leading global oil producer, fully recognizes its share of responsibility in advancing the fight against the climate crisis. Just as the Kingdom underpinned energy markets during the oil and gas era, it is going to become a global leader in forging a greener world."

The CEO of the Vegetation Cover Center pointed out that the two initiatives are a continuation of the Kingdom's efforts to protect the environment, energy and climate, which were announced during the Kingdom's presidency of the G20 summit held in Riyadh. — SPA
