COVID-19 cases in Saudi Arabia top 400 for second day in a row

RIYADH — Coronavirus cases in Saudi Arabia breached the 400-mark for the second consecutive day after more than four months.

The Ministry of Health on Tuesday recorded 410 new infections, surpassing Monday’s figure of 404.

On Nov. 13, 2020, the health ministry recorded 441 new cases after that the number of new infections began to plunge.

The single-day cases in the Kingdom dropped to as low as 82 on Jan. 3, 2021, and they began to rise again gradually.

The ministry announced five more deaths over the past 24 hours from complications caused by COVID-19.

This brings the total number of confirmed infections in the Kingdom to 385,834 and the virus-related fatalities to 6,618.

The ministry also reported 366 recoveries over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of people free from the deadly virus to 375,165.

The Riyadh region continued to record the highest number of infections with 159 cases, followed by the Makkah region with 80 and the Eastern region with 71 new infections.

The remaining cases were detected in other regions of the Kingdom with five of them reporting less than 10 infections.

According to the ministry, there were 4,051 active cases and 617 of them were in critical condition.
