RIYADH — The Saudi Human Rights Commission (HRC) has verified that no new criminal charges are currently being brought against Raif Badawi as alleged by the chair of the European Parliament's subcommittee on human rights in its most recent meeting.

The commission verified with the relevant authorities and found no basis to substantiate such a claim.

“We found no indication that new charges would be brought against Badawi and no indication that a trial is scheduled to take place,” HRC said in a statement. — SG
