Saudi Gazette report

WASHINGTON — Former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has criticized the decision of the new administration led by President Joe Biden to remove the Iran-backed Houthi militia from its list of “foreign terrorist organizations," a designation that comes with severe US sanctions.

The former US secretary of state said that the move is a gift to the Iranian regime.

Taking to Twitter, Pompeo said: “It’s a fact that Iran is sponsoring the Houthis. It’s a fact that the Houthis are conducting terror. The reality is that revoking the terrorist designation of the Houthis is a gift to the Iranians & will allow the Houthis to continue to foment terror around the world.

The top former US official made the remarks in the aftermath of the Houthi terror attack on Abha airport on Wednesday.
