MUSCAT — Oman will launch a campaign on Sunday (Feb. 7), targeting a new segment of society as part of its COVID-19 national immunization drive using the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine.

In a statement carried by the Oman News Agency, the country's health ministry said that the campaign targets people aged 65+ in all governorates of the sultanate, irrespective of whether they are ‘healthy’ or not. The vaccine will be given at designated immunization centers.

The two-dose vaccine will be given in intervals of four weeks, the statement added.

Last Saturday, the Sultanate received a total of 100,000 doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine produced by the Serum Institute of India.

People who already received the first dose of Pfizer-bioNTech will not be given the current vaccine.

The health ministry will announce the date of applying for the second dose of Pfizer-bioNTech later.
