Recoveries outpace new COVID-19 cases in Saudi Arabia as deaths remain low

RIYADH — New coronavirus cases in Saudi Arabia remained above the 250-mark for the fifth consecutive day, with 255 new infections recorded on Monday.

The single-day cases have recently risen in the Kingdom after falling to as low as 82 recorded on Jan. 3, 2021.

The virus-related deaths, however, remained low despite a slight increase in the new cases with just 4 reported over the past 24 hours.

This brings the total number of confirmed infections in the Kingdom to 368,329 and fatalities to 6,379 respectively.

The ministry also reported 266 new recoveries over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of people free from the deadly virus to 359,839.

The Riyadh region continued to record the highest number of infections with 99 cases, followed by the Eastern region with 58 and the Makkah region with 46 cases.

The remaining cases were detected in different other regions of the Kingdom.

With the increase in the number of recoveries, the active cases in Saudi Arabia dropped to 2,111 out of which 371 were critical.
