Saudi, Afghan education ministers seek to boost cooperation in science and education

RIYADH — Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Education Hamad Bin Mohammed Al Al-Sheikh met here on Thursday with Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Haneef Atmar, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

During the meeting, Al-Sheikh and Atmar signed a memorandum of cooperation in the scientific and educational fields between the Saudi and Afghan education ministries.

The memorandum encourages the exchange visits between education officials and student delegations, as well as programs for training teachers and supervisors.

It also provides for exchanging regulations, conditions for admission to schools and colleges, and the equivalence of academic certificates.

The agreement aims to consolidate the existing friendship between the two countries and raise the level of cooperation between them in the scientific and educational fields.

Earlier on Thursday, the visiting Afghan foreign minister met with his Saudi counterpart Prince Faisal bin Farhan in the latter’s office.

During the meeting, both foreign ministers discussed bilateral relations and prospects for joint cooperation, in addition to regional developments, and a number of regional and international issues of mutual interest.
