JEDDAH — Saudi Arabia’s new waste management policies and measures aimed at reducing waste production through recycling waste and using it as raw materials were lauded during a virtual meeting between representatives from the Kingdom and Bahrain.

The meeting attended by the CEO of the Saudi Waste Management Center and the executive officer of the Bahrain Supreme Council for Environment (SCE), Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak bin Daina, and Bahrain’s Municipalities Affairs Undersecretary, Shaikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, reviewed the waste management system in both the countries, the Bahrain News Agency reported.

The Saudi move, which is being done in cooperation with the private sector, aims to enhance investment in the field of waste management in order to preserve the environment and increase the sector’s contributions to economic development, it was pointed out in the meeting.

Dr. Bin Daina, the Bahraini official, stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation and exchange of information and expertise among the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries in various fields, including the environment and sustainable development, noting that waste management is a priority for all countries and a challenge that they all face.
