RIYADH — Saudi Arabia recorded on Sunday 117 new coronavirus infections over the past 24 hours, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health.

The ministry announced five more deaths over the past 24 hours due to complications caused by COVID-19, continuing the single-digit, single-day fatalities reported in many months since the outbreak of the pandemic in the Kingdom.

This brings the total number of confirmed infections in the Kingdom to 363,809 and the virus-related death toll to 6,291.

The ministry also reported 166 new recoveries over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of people free from the deadly virus to 355,548, with the recovery rate rising to 97.69 percent.

The Riyadh region reported the highest number of infections with 47 cases, followed by the Makkah region and the Eastern region with 22 cases each and Asir region with 6 cases.

Al Jouf region and Najran region reported one case each. The remaining cases were detected in different other regions of the Kingdom.

With the recoveries surpassing new cases regularly, the active cases in Saudi Arabia have also dropped to 1,970 out of which 309 were critical cases.
