MANAMA — Thirty-one members of a Bahraini family, including 14 children, have tested positive for coronavirus, the country’s ministry of health said on Tuesday citing a report prepared by its contact tracing team.

The health ministry said that the patients contracted the virus because they failed to abide by the decisions and precautionary measures recommended by the authorities.

The health ministry also pointed out that the laboratory tests conducted recently showed an increase in the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases resulting from contacting active cases because of their non-commitment to the precautionary measures and health guidelines.

The ministry called on the citizens and residents to abide by the guidelines that ensure them the highest levels of health security, including limited family gatherings, wearing face masks and shields, as well as adherence to social distancing, stressing that commitment to the precautionary measures is a national duty.

Meanwhile, in another development, the owner of a café who violated the precautionary measures to curb the spread of COVID-19 has been ordered to pay a fine of 2,000 Bahraini dinars (SR20,000 approximately).

The prosecutor for ministries and public entities said that the action was taken after health inspectors reported that the café allowed more than six people to sit at a table, which meant more than 50 percent of its seating capacity.

The case was referred to the criminal court that issued its verdict on Tuesday, he added.
