Saudi Arabia is applying unique humanitarian approach in dealing with COVID-19: Al-Awwad

RIYADH — Saudi Arabia's efforts to combat coronavirus have drawn global attention as the Kingdom treated citizens and residents alike, providing them with safety and health in the face of the pandemic, said Dr. Awwad Al-Awwad, the president of the Saudi Human Rights Commission (HRC).

Saudi Arabia also extended its full support to various sectors to help them tide over the crisis caused by the pandemic, which has already contributed to maintaining the balance of the economy and its resilience in the face of negative repercussions, he added.

Al-Awwad made the remarks in a speech on the occasion of International Human Rights Day 2020, the slogan of which stresses that human rights are at the core of recovery efforts from COVID-19.

The HRC chief further said that Saudi Arabia's prudent leadership followed a unique humanitarian approach in dealing with the coronavirus pandemic, attaching great importance and care at both the national and international levels.

He added that Saudi Arabia is working continuously to achieve sustainable development, enforce rule of law, and bring about justice and equality, citing the issuance of more than 70 decisions as evidence of implementing unprecedented reforms in the field of human rights in the Kingdom.

Al-Awwaad also said that Saudi Arabia is committed to supporting human rights in light of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 and it has also fulfilled all its obligations, qualifying it to become among 36 countries out of a total of 197 state parties that have adhered to this criterion.

HRC President highlighted the Kingdom's great support for and assistance to the international community through the support of organizations and states, citing its continuous approach in helping humanity as a whole away from any inhuman motives.
