COVID-19 cases in Kuwait outpace recoveries for first time in 3 weeks

KUWAIT CITY — Kuwait recorded on Monday 301 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed infections in the country to 144,900, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health.

The ministry also announced 297 more recoveries, pushing the total number of recoveries in the country to 142,638.

Over the last three weeks, Kuwait has regularly been reporting more recoveries than new infections. On Nov. 14, 691 new cases were reported against 558 recoveries in the country.

The ministry also announced three more deaths due to complications caused by the deadly virus, taking the total number of fatalities to 900.

According to the ministry’s spokesman Dr. Abdullah Al-Sanad, there are currently 3,362 active cases in the country out of which 83 are receiving treatment in intensive care units.

A total of 5,783 swab tests were conducted over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of COVID-19 examinations in the country so far to 1,152,203, Dr. Al-Sanad said.

The spokesman urged citizens and expatriates alike that abiding by health precautions, mainly, following social distancing rules, is the only way to halt the spread of the virus. — SG
