Kuwait reports 486 new COVID-19 cases, two deaths, 623 recoveries

KUWAIT CITY — Kuwait registered on Friday 486 new coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed infections in the country to 139,308, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health carried by state news agency KUNA.

The ministry also announced two more deaths due to complications caused by the deadly virus, taking the total number of fatalities to 861.

According to the ministry’s spokesman Dr. Abdullah Al-Sanad, there are currently 7,398 active cases in the country out of which 92 are receiving treatment in intensive care units.

A total of 6,250 tests were conducted over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of COVID-19 examinations in the country so far to 1,042,235, Dr. Al-Sanad said.

Earlier in the day, the ministry announced that a total of 623 more patients have recovered from COVID-19 over the past 24 hours, pushing the total number of recoveries in the country to 131,049.

The spokesman urged citizens and expatriates alike that abiding by health precautions, mainly, following social distancing rules, is the only way to halt the spread of the virus.— SG
