LONDON — More than 53.85 million people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus globally and 1,311,534 have died, according to a latest tally. There have been 37.59 million recoveries.

Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.

In Rio de Janero, Brazil registered 29,070 new cases of the coronavirus, Reuters cited the Brazilian Health Ministry as saying, bringing the total to 5,810,652. Tall of deaths rose by 456 to 164,737 on Friday.

In Moscow, Russia said on Saturday 391 persons died of the coronavirus while 22,702 tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. The coronavirus operations center said, total deaths reached 32,834, while registered infections increased to 1,903,253. It added, 18,626 people recovered from the virus in the last 24 hours, while the total number of recoveries reached 1,425,529.

Meanwhile, total coronavirus cases in Belgium on Saturday reached 525,012 with 4,619 new infections reported by health authorities, while 215 deaths from COVID-19 were reported in the last 24 hours, raising the total to 14,106.

In New Delhi, Indian health authorities announced on Saturday that 520 people died due to COVID-19 while 44,684 new cases were reported from across the country in a span of 24 hours.

The Indian Ministry of Health and Family welfare said the fatalities due tot eh coronavirus claimed to 129,188 while the total number of positive cases rose to 8,773,479. The ministry said 8,163,572 people have recovered from the pandemic as it spread to 35 Indian states.

In Beijing, China reported 18 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours. The National Health Commission was quoted by Xinhua news agency as saying that the tally of deaths and infections reached 4,634 and 86,325 respectively. The tally of recoveries hit 81,303 with the discharge of 24 people in the past 24 hours. — Agencies
