MAKKAH — A medical team at Al-Noor Specialist Hospital in Makkah has successfully carried out a delicate simultaneous bilateral cataract surgery to restore the lost sight for both eyes of a young man with special needs.

The young man was suffering for more than a year due to his health conditions that took a toll on his mental health and led to the loss of vision.


The deputy head of the ophthalmology department, Dr. Samer Basiri, said that when the patient visited the hospital with his mother, he was in a bad psychological state as he could not even see his food or drink for over a year, adding to his suffering.

The examinations revealed the cataract in both eyes, requiring surgical intervention to remove it and implant lens inside the eyes, Dr. Basiri added pointing out that the operation was performed by a specialized team.

The patient's mother thanked the medical staff who supervised the operation.
