Abeer Olayan is an innovative oil expert, former academic and visiting scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States of America since 2015. She is the first Saudi woman to receive the title of Oil and Gas Woman of the Year in the Middle East in recognition of her great efforts in the energy field and the development of many smart chemical materials.

It was also a recognition of her innovation of scientific methods to solve the leakage problems of drilling wells that was submitted to Saudi Aramco.

Olayan worked as a lecturer and researcher in analytical chemistry at the University of Dammam from 2008 to 2011, and as senior scientist and researcher in the field of petroleum at the EXPEC Advanced Research Center of Saudi Aramco.

She was chosen as the board member of the Saudi section of the American Chemical Society. Most of the members of the section were Saudi Aramco employees and that gave her an opportunity to come into contact with them, before joining Saudi Aramco in 2011, which enabled her to fulfill her dreams and aspirations to work in the oil field.

And now she is a mother, an expert and a scientist who is able to fulfill her dreams and proved her mettle to show that Saudi women are able to compete with men in all spheres of life.
