DUBAI — Hugely talented singer, guitarist and composer Sama Shoufani returns to the limelight with new single "Badi Ellak".
Sama’s latest release is out on Oct. 1, 2020, on Levantine Records in the United States. And "Badi Ellak" is a soaring single that blends catchy Arabic melodies with modern pop rhythms, creating a sweeping anthem. But while the music floats and grows, the lyrics get to the heart of equality and women’s empowerment.
Sama encourages women to be frank, brave and have the freedom of choice because "life is neither like dreams nor movies". As "Badi Ellak" rises and falls, so do the lyrics — "dak khilki ma'ak" (‘I had enough’ in English) — as Sama urges women to be strong and drive forward towards their dreams.
And in many regards, Sama is the embodiment of that sentiment. Born into a music-loving Palestinian family in the city of Nazareth, she began to sing and play the guitar aged just six. Her love of music then pushed her into a music degree.
Her ability to sing in Arabic, English, and French, helped her message to always hit home while building a huge fan base around the world and bridging any cultural and language divide.
"Badi Ellak" encourages everyone, but specifically women, to take a moment and discover their inner passion. It’s a powerful statement from a powerful singer. — SG
