Saudi Arabia sees 421 new COVID-19 cases as recoveries continue to surge

RIYADH — Saudi Arabia on Thursday registered 421 new coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours, taking the total number of confirmed infections in the Kingdom to 338,132, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health.

Twenty-five more died over the past 24 hours from complications caused by COVID-19, taking the total number of virus-related fatalities to 4,972.

The ministry also reported 561 new recoveries over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of people free from the deadly virus to 323,769 with the recovery rate rising to 95.75 percent.

Of the new cases, Madinah recorded the highest number of cases with 57 infections followed by Yanbu with 38 and Makkah with 36. The remaining cases were detected in different cities and governorates across the Kingdom.

Active cases continued to drop with 9,391 reported on Wednesday, out of which 879 are critical.
