KUWAIT— Kuwait’s new Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has asked the Kuwaiti Cabinet led by Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah to carry on its duties and prepare for parliamentary elections due this year after the premier submitted the resignation of his government, state news agency KUNA reported on Tuesday.

In a meeting with the prime minister, Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Nawaf expressed his full confidence in the current Cabinet, which was formed last December.

The new emir called on everyone to abide by the duties and responsibilities in line with the constitution and laws in order to achieve progress of Kuwait.

Sheikh Nawaf, 83, took the helm of Kuwait following the death of his brother Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed last Tuesday aged 91. — Agencies
