ABU DHABI — The United Arab Emirates on Thursday recorded 1,002 new coronavirus cases over the last 24 hours, taking the total number of confirmed infections in the country to 88,532, the country's Ministry of Health and Prevention said in a statement carried by state news agency WAM.

The new patients, all of whom are in a stable condition and receiving the necessary medical treatment, were detected after the ministry carried out 93,618 additional COVID-19 examinations in the country over the last 24 hours, using the latest testing methods.

The ministry also announced one new death due to complications caused by COVID-19, pushing the total number of virus-related fatalities in the country to 407.

The ministry expressed its sincere condolences to the families of the deceased and wished current COVID-19 patients a speedy and full recovery.

It also announced the recovery of an additional 942 individuals from the deadly disease, bringing the total number of recoveries to 77,937.

The ministry called on the public to cooperate with health authorities and adhere to social distancing protocols and preventative measures to ensure the health and safety of all. — SG
