RIYADH — Saudi Grains Organization (SAGO) has completed procedures for importing 540,000 tons of barley, in the sixth tender for 2020, from the European Union, Australia, Black Sea countries, and North and South American countries except Canada, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Monday.

Commenting on the development, SAGO governor Ahmad Al-Fares said on Monday that the amount specified in the tender is distributed to nine shipments; seven shipments with the amount of 420,000 tons for the Kingdom’s ports on the Red Sea, and two shipments with the amount of 120,000 tons for the Kingdom’s ports on the Arabian Gulf, to be supplied during the period of November-December 2020.

The governor also said that this tender comes as an extension to the efforts of maintaining the strategic reserve of imported barley. — SG
