KUWAIT CITY — Kuwait on Friday recorded 653 new coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours, taking the total number of confirmed infections in the country to 93,475, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health carried by the Kuwait News Agency.

The ministry also announced one more death from complications caused by COVID-19, taking the total number of virus-related fatalities to 557.

According to the ministry's spokesman Dr. Abdullah Al-Sanad, there are 9,258 patients who are receiving necessary medical care in hospitals, out of whom 97 are in intensive care units.

The spokesman also said the ministry conducted as many as 4,870 coronavirus tests over the past 24 hours, pushing the total number COVID-19 examinations in the country to 668,005.

Earlier in the day, the ministry said 620 people have recovered from the virus, upping the total number of those who overcame the deadly disease to 83,660.
