ABU DHABI — The United Arab Emirates on Thursday announced 930 new coronavirus cases, the highest single-day number in four months, according to Farida Al Hosani, the spokesperson for the country's health sector.

The spokesperson also announced 5 more deaths from complications caused by COVID-19 over the past 24 hours.

This brings the total number of confirmed infections in the country to 76,911 and virus-related fatalities to 398.

The spokesperson added that a total of 586 people have recovered from the deadly disease over the past 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries in the UAE to 67,945.

Males account for 62 percent of the new infections while the remaining 38 percent of the cases are of females.

The recent spike in the number of new cases has been attributed to social gatherings. According to the ministry's figures, 88 percent of the new cases resulted from weddings, work, funerals or other social gatherings. — Agencies
