Saudi COVID-19 cases remain steady

Saudi Arabia confirmed 781 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours as daily infections remain below 1,000, the health ministry announced on Tuesday. The Kingdom recorded 768 infections on Monday.

The overall cases in the country stand at 322,237, health ministry spokesman Dr. Muhammad Al-Abdel Ali was quoted by Saudi Press Agency (SPA) as saying.

There was an increase in the new COVID-19 fatalities, the ministry said. Thirty people died due to complications caused by the virus in the past 24 hours, raising the overall death toll to 4,137. On Monday, there were 27 casualties.

The total number of recoveries in Saudi Arabia rose to 298,246 after 623 people recovered, Dr. Al-Abdel Ali said.

Jeddah topped the list with 62 new infections recorded on Tuesday. There were 58 cases in Makkah, 51 in Madinah, 50 in Dammam, 43 in Riyadh, 36 in Hufof, 32 in Al-Mobarraz, 31 in Qatif, 28 in Yanbu and 22 in Khamis Mushayt.

The rest of the cases were scattered in different cities and governorates across the Kingdom, Dr. Al-Abdel Ali said.

The largest group of people to be affected by the coronavirus in Saudi Arabia is the youth in the country, he said, urging all members of the public to follow preventative measures to help contain the outbreak.

Saudi Arabia recorded its highest daily on increase on June 19 when 4,301 cases were confirmed over a 24-hour period.
