WASHINGTON — Former US Vice President Joe Biden officially accepted the Democratic National Convention’s (DNC) nomination for the presidential election on Nov. 3. He will face the Republican Party’s nominee and current President Donald Trump.

In his speech — delivered from the State of Delaware during the DNC’s virtual convention — Biden said that the current president has cloaked American ager for far too long. He added that there was too much anger and too much division. Biden promised, if elected, that he will draw on the best of what America has to offer.

“I’ll draw on the light, not darkness. It’s time for us, for we the people, to come together, and make no mistake, we can and will overcome this season of darkness in America. We’ll choose hope over fear, facts over fiction, fairness over privilege.”

The former vice president indicated that this was a life-changing election that was going to determine what America is going to look like for a long time.

Biden gave a withering assessment of President Trump's performance on the COVID-19 crisis, saying it is "by far the worst performance of any nation on earth."

"The president takes no responsibility," said Biden in his acceptance speech. "It didn't have to be this bad. It's not this bad in Canada, in Europe, or any place in the world."

"We lead the world in cases, in deaths," he said, but "the president still does not have a plan. Well, I do."

Illinois Sen. Tammy Duckworth hit quite hard on Trump’s stewardship of national security. Trump, she said, “is a coward in chief who won’t stand up to Vladimir Putin, read his daily briefings or even admonish adversaries for putting bounties on our troops’ heads.”

During the virtual convention, a number of figures including President Barack Obama, Sen. Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and others spoke while imploring the American people to support Biden against the incumbent Trump.

Biden’s partner in the race is Sen. Kamala Harris, who officially accepted the Democratic vice presidential nomination on Wednesday the third night of the DNC.

Reacting to Biden, Trump took to Twitter and said, “In 47 years, Joe (Biden) did none of the things of which he now speaks. He will never change, just words!” — Agencies
