MUSCAT — Oman’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Yusuf Bin Alawi Bin Abdullah, spoke over the phone with Israeli Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi, the Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Monday.

In a series of tweets, the Omani foreign ministry said that they discussed the latest developments in the region.

Omani minister told the Israeli minister that the Sultanate supported a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in the Middle East and that negotiations on an Israel-Palestine peace process needed to resume in order fulfilling the legitimate demands of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital, which is at the same time consistent with the Arab position, the ministry said.

Later, the Israeli foreign minister took to Twitter saying: “I had a phone call with the Omani Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Bin Alawi Bin Abdullah. The conversation dealt with the latest developments in the region, the normalization agreement with the UAE and the need to consolidate relations between the two countries.

“I expressed my deep appreciation for the commitment of the Sultanate of Oman and its Foreign Minister to peace and stability in the Middle East. “We agreed on direct and continuous communication and the continuation of the important dialogue between the two countries to promote the process of normalization in the Middle East,” the Israeli foreign minister added.

Meanwhile, the Omani foreign minister also received a phone call from Jibril Rajoub, secretary-general of the central committee for Fatah.

In one of the tweets, the Omani foreign ministry said: “Fatah expressed the Palestinians’ “appreciation and reassurance of the Sultanate and its balanced and wise policy toward Arab issues, foremost of which is the Palestinian cause.
