GCC denounces Turkish threats against UAE

RIYADH — The Gulf Cooperation Council has strongly condemned threats and statements made by Turkish officials against the United Arab Emirates, the council said in a statement on Tuesday.

In a meeting with the Turkish ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Erdogan Kok, the secretary-general of the GCC Nayef Falah Mubarak Al-Hajraf rejected the threats made against the UAE recently by some top officials in Turkey, highlighting that the security of the GCC states is indivisible, based on the principle of joint defense within the framework of the council, the statement said.

Al-Hajraf stressed the GCC’s keenness to maintain the security and stability of the region and to develop relations with neighboring countries in a way that achieves common interests based on respect for the sovereignty of states and non-interference in their internal affairs, and commitment to the principles of international law and the United Nations Charter.

He also underscored the commitment of the council to maintain the security of Arab countries and the rejection of external interference in their internal affairs, the statement added.
