RIYADH —
A total of 1,257 new cases of the novel coronavirus were detected in Saudi Arabia during the last 24 hours, the ministry of health said on Monday. It brings the total number of confirmed infections in the Kingdom to 289,947.

The number of recoveries in the Kingdom rose to 253,478 after 1,439 people recovered in the last 24 hours, health ministry spokesman Dr. Muhammad Al-Abdel Ali was quoted by Saudi Press Agency (SPA) as saying.

Thirty-two people died due to complications caused by the virus, raising the virus-related death toll in the country to 3,199, the spokesman said.

Riyadh recorded 88 new cases. It was followed by Dammam with 65 infections. There were 63 cases in Hufof, 62 in Hail, 59 in Buraidah, 58 in Makkah, 52 in Jeddah, 51 in Madinah, and 50 in Yanbu. The other new infections were detected in cities and provinces across the Kingdom.

The number of recoveries in the Kingdom rose to 253,478 after 1,439 people recovered in the last 24 hours, the spokesman said.

The slight rise in the number of infections can be linked to people attending large gatherings and failing to adhere to social distancing measures, Dr. Al-Abdel Ali said on Sunday.

However, there is no specific virus hotspot in the Kingdom since most people have been following preventative measures, he added.
