ABU DHABI The United Arab Emirates on Wednesday dispatched emergency medical assistance to Lebanon to help healthcare facilities treat victims of the massive explosions in Beirut.

The assistance, which includes medicines and medical supplies, reflects the UAE’s solidarity with the brotherly Lebanese people.

This medical assistance from the UAE is part of a response to help mitigate the effects of the tragic accident and strengthen the efforts of medical personnel to treat the wounded. As part of the humanitarian assistance, 30 tons of medical supplies were sent from the International Humanitarian City in Dubai to Lebanon.

Reem Bint Ibrahim Al Hashemy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, said this swift move reflects the keenness of the UAE’s leadership to stand by its brothers in difficult circumstances and help those in need.

She added, "The UAE’s commitment to provide various forms of support in such situations underlines our solidarity with all brotherly and friendly countries in time of crises and our desire to make concerted efforts to mitigate challenges. We will work to assess the situation to evaluate what further assistance we can provide."

Meanwhile, Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, chairwoman of the General Women's Union, president of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and supreme chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation and honorary president of the Emirates Red Crescent, has donated 10 million dirhams (SR10 million) to support their relief programs for all those affected by the Beirut port explosion, reinforcing the ERC’s efforts to mitigate the effects of this disaster.

"The donation is a part of Sheikha Fatima’s initiatives to support the people affected by disasters and crises around the world, and represents her solidarity with the Lebanese people in these dire conditions," the Emirates Red Crescent stated.

The Emirates Red Crescent highlighted the fact that the donation strengthens the relief efforts of the ERC in Lebanon, and contributes to providing humanitarian services that will fulfill the urgent need of health organizations for medical supplies to tackle the numerous health challenges they face after the disaster.
