Saudi Arabia reports 1,573 new coronavirus cases amid Eid festivities

RIYADH — Saudi Arabia’s detected 1,573 new coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed infections in the Kingdom to 277,478, the Ministry of Health said in a statement on Saturday, the second day of Eid Al-Adha.

The ministry announced 21 more deaths resulting from COVID-19, taking the total number of virus-related fatalities to 2,887.

The recovery rate in Saudi Arabia rose to 85.6 percent with 1,890 more coronavirus patients getting cured after receiving necessary care, raising the total number of recoveries in the Kingdom to 237,548, according to the ministry.

All cities and governorates in the Kingdom reported less than 100 new cases with the exception of the capital Riyadh, which recorded 102 cases.

Meanwhile, Makkah registered 89 cases, Dammam with 72, Hufof with 61 and Madinah with 55 new infections.

The rest of the new infections were confirmed in cities and provinces across the Kingdom.

The number of active cases in the Kingdom stands at 37,043, out of which 2,016 are critical.
