Corona cases rise in Kuwait with 751 new infections

KUWAIT CITY — With 751 new cases of the novel coronavirus reported on Wednesday, the total number of confirmed infections in Kuwait rose to 61,185, the health ministry said.

The latest cases are of 429 Kuwaitis and 322 foreign residents, ministry spokesman Dr. Abdullah Al-Sanad said.

All the new cases were in touch with previously infected people or are being investigated for sources of infection and identifying those who were in contact, he added.

Five new deaths was also announced, bringing Kuwait's total fatalities of COVID-19 to 417.

There are 127 patients receiving intensive care treatment, the official added in a media update.

Meanwhile, the number of recoveries rose to 51,520 after 601 people recovered from the coronavirus.

Kuwait's total virus tests have reached 471,000 so far after 4,139 tests have been done over the past 24 hours, Dr. Al-Sanad said.

Kuwait began slowly easing restrictions earlier this month and has since allowed commercial activities to resume operations.

Mosques were also allowed to reopen in Kuwait for the first time in more than three months on Friday, welcoming believers for prayers who were ordered to maintain social distancing measures. — Agencies
