KUWAIT — Global coronavirus cases topped 14 million Saturday as the reported deaths reached over 600,000 deaths, John Hopkins University (JHU) said. The tally showed that the confirmed cases worldwide reached 14,109,173 whereas the recorded deaths reached 602,711.

The United States, Brazil and India are the only countries worldwide with over one million cases with the US and the Brazil having the highest number of deaths globally.

This figures were announced as 231,743 new coronavirus cases were reported to the World Health Organization (WHO) in the last 24 hours, CNN reported, according to a new situation report published on Friday.

Meanwhile, New Delhi on Saturday said that 671 people died due to coronavirus during the last 24 hours with 34,884 new positive cases reported in the country.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said in its latest update that the death toll due to the pandemic has jumped to 26,273 as the total cases rose to 1.04 million.

The ministry data showed that 653,751 people have recovered as 35 Indian states are in the grip of the deadly virus. Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, New Delhi, Telangana, Karnataka, Assam, Bihar are among the worst affected India states.

In cairo, the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population announced the lowest figure of coronavirus infections to only 703 new coronavirus cases and 68 deaths until Saturday, the lowest figure since late May.

According to the Ministry of Health spokesperson, Dr. Khalid Mujahid, 611 people recovered and were discharged from the hospital, bringing the total number of people recovering from the virus to 27,302 cases to date.

He further said that the total number registered in Egypt with the novel coronavirus until Saturday is 86,647 cases, of whom 27,302 have recovered, while recording 4,188 deaths.

In Manila, the Philippines' Health Ministry on Saturday reported 113 more new coronavirus deaths and 2,357 additional infections.

In a bulletin, the ministry said total deaths have increased to 1,773 while confirmed cases have reached 65,304, with the capital and Cebu City in central Philippines accounting for the bulk of the infections as the virus spreads.
