Kuwait COVID-19 cases near 55,000

KUWAIT CITY — Kuwait on Sunday reported 836 new COVID-19 cases and four more deaths, raising the tally of infections to 54,894 and the death toll to 390, the health ministry said.

Currently, 9,894 patients are receiving treatment, including 151 in ICU, health ministry's spokesman Dr. Abdullah Al-Sanad said in a media briefing.

A total of 549 Kuwaiti citizens and 287 non-Kuwaiti expatriates tested positive for the virus, the ministry said.

Four people died due to COVID-19, the ministry added. The virus-related death toll in Kuwait is now 390.

Meanwhile, the total number of recoveries in the country rose to 44,610 after 649 people recovered from the coronavirus in the past 24 hours, according to Dr. Al-Sanad.

All the new cases were in contact with previously infected people or are being investigated for sources of infection, Dr. Al-Sanad added.

Commercial acitivities were part of the country’s second phase of reopening.

International flights to and from Kuwait will resume on Aug. 1, the country announced last week. — Agencies
