KUWAIT CITY — Kuwait on Friday recorded 740 new coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country to 53,580, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health carried by Kuwait News Agency.

Speaking during the daily press briefing, the ministry’s official spokesman Dr. Abdullah Al-Sanad confirmed one more death from complications caused by COVID-19, taking the total number of virus-related fatalities in the country to 383.

Of the new cases, 487 are Kuwaiti citizens and 253 are expatriates from different countries, the spokesman said.

A total of 157 patients are receiving treatment in intensive care units, according to the spokesman.

Al-Sanad pointed out that the ministry conducted 4,121 additional coronavirus tests over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of COVID-19 tests done in the country to 427,006.

Earlier in the day, the ministry announced that 528 more patients have recovered from COVID-19 over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries from the deadly disease in the country to 43,214.
