CAIRO — Israel’s annexation of Palestinian lands will worsen the Mideast conflict and feed extremism, Arab foriegn ministers said on Monday.
In a statement, foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Palestine, the UAE, Morocco, Tunisia, Oman, and Kuwait reinstated their support for Palestine to get its full legal rights.
The statement, issued after the foreign ministers had a virtual meeting with Arab League Secretary General of the Arab League, Ahmed Abul Gheit, to look into updates on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, rejected Israel’s annexing of any occupied Palestinian lands, warning of the move’s danger.
The statement also called on the international community to take clear and effective measures to prevent the annexation decision.
“It’s necessary to return to the table of serious and effective talks to solve the conflict based on the two-state solution and international resolutions,” the statement said.
Palestinians have expressed outrage at Israel’s plans to cement its hold further on land it seized in the 1967 Middle East war, territory they are seeking for a state.
“This step, if taken, would eliminate the possibility of embodying an independent, sovereign, geographically connected and viable Palestinian state. This step, if completed, would end the two-state solution,” Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Al-Maliki said earlier. — Agencies
